OJPC’s 2023 Annual Event:

50 through 50

Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal September 28, 2023

6:00 – 10:00 PM

Join us on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2023, at Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal as the Ohio Justice and Policy Center (OJPC) explores the theme of “50 years of mass incarceration told through 50 years of hip-hop.”

Guests will enjoy a reception of heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and soft drinks. There will be ample opportunity to mingle and for connection with OJPC staff and clients to hear their stories and learn about the work being done to create a more just criminal legal system in Ohio.

The evening’s program will feature several panelists, including Serena Nunn and Wendy Day, discussing the local and national practices and policies that contributed to the prison population spike over the past 50 years. The panel will also discuss how hip-hop music over the past 50 years described the conditions leading to – and the disparities stemming from – mass incarceration. Other panelists are still to be announced.

After the program, we’ll return from the Rotunda for dessert and entertainment from a DJ.

Serena Nunn is a speaker, podcaster, and attorney dedicated to advocacy on behalf of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. She served almost 11 years in federal prison prior to President Clinton commuting her sentence. Serena was working as a Public Defender in Atlanta in 2016 when President Obama granted her pardon request.
