Artists: Drawn by Twyana Davis
Labels & Barriers, 2020
Pencil

This piece features a woman by the name of Kim Jordan, who was incarcerated for over 35 years. This drawing expresses how easy it is to lose your identity in prison when you are constantly being bombarded with numbers and labels that don’t belong to you.

The message conveyed by Twana’s piece is if you can find the strength to fight through it and rise above the labels, there is beauty on the other side.
