My Baby, 2021
Acrylic

Jamie Ochs, from Dayton, Ohio, chose to depict an incredibly personal journey. For most women, giving birth is one of the most beautiful and memorable moments of a lifetime. Through My Baby, she re-lived her experience giving birth while being shackled to a hospital bed at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Rather than experiencing joy, it was one of the most traumatic experiences of her life. She was serving a 10-year sentence at Dayton Correctional Institute.
