Her Voice provides trauma-informed legal services and advocacy to ALL justice-impacted women and girls.

Revitalized in 2025, Her Voice focuses on the underserved population of incarcerated and justice-impacted women in Ohio. OJPC recognizes the urgent issues facing women in the criminal legal system—including sexual assault and mistreatment in prison, inadequate health care (especially reproductive and sexual health), barriers to opportunity after release, wrongful convictions, and over-punishment rooted in gender-based violence or coercion. By leveraging OJPC’s existing services and advocacy tools, Her Voice expands access to justice, sharpens community education on these issues, and drives systemic reform through policy impact. Her Voice strengthens and amplifies OJPC’s advocacy for ALL justice-impacted women and girls, including women of color, LGBTQIA+ people, and low-income women.

The Her Voice project will focus on women who are the victims of sexual assault or mistreatment while incarcerated; women who receive inadequate health care while imprisoned, including inadequate care related to reproductive or sexual health; women and mothers who face barriers to opportunity or reentry shaped by caregiving; human trafficking survivors with criminal records who face barriers to opportunity; women who are wrongfully convicted based on manifest injustice (such as Brady violations), particularly in cases with disparities in punishment between codefendants; women who are over punished, particularly where their conviction is related to their status as a domestic violence victim, victim of intimate partner violence, or victim of coercion.
